Internationally there are many companies and organisations who understand the need for quality management processes within their business as it ensures there is quality in all that they do. The quality standard ISO 9001 was developed to assess quality management processes of businesses against recognised best practice principles. Any company that wants to be awarded one of the ISO accreditations must be willing to have an independent certification body come into their businesses and assess them. The current version of the standard is the ISO 9001:2008.

Any company that has been given an ISO 9001 accreditation will have a documented quality control plan in place that complies with guidelines developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation, (ISO). Accreditation by an independent organisation provides a confirmation that the company is competent in its field and adheres to a certain level of quality in its operations as well as products and services.
