Community clean ups
When anyone is injured or has an accident on the streets of the UK, wants to complain about how dirty they are or rubbish not being collected it's the local council who are in the firing line. Now whilst they have a responsibility to clear rubbish and maintain our streets to a safe standard the public seriously need to stop and think about how the streets get in such a mess in the first place.
Litter on the streets doesn't just appear as if by magic, it is there quite simply because some lazy so and so couldn't be bothered to put it in a bin. Times this by several hundred lazy so and so's and you have littered streets. Now I'm not suggesting that people can change overnight, but surely if more people cared about the community they live in and all did their bit over time the streets would become cleaner. Rather than fining litter louts why not make them do community work such as litter collection and street cleaning. Making them mingle with their mess may make them think twice before dropping litter in the future. Businesses such as take away food shops should be made by law to provide waste bins outside of their premises for disposing of empty food and drink cartons.
There are many local communities across the UK that are actively working to clean up their local area:
Clean Sweep UK hires out road sweepers and sweepers which are ideal for big litter and debris clear ups.
